Mickelson's new iPhone application

offers quality, affordable instruction

By John Davis

The key to helping every-day golfers with their game is providing something that is both affordable and user-friendly, and that's what one of the PGA Tour's top players and "techies" is offering through an iPhone and iPod touch application.
On the heels of his successful book and DVD Secrets of the Short Game, Phil Mickelson has launched the game-improvement application that focuses on golf shots from 50 yards in to the pin and will sell for $4.99 on Apple’s App Store at www.itunes.com/appstore.
It is divided into two chapters on chipping and putting, which are the key elements to scoring, and few in the history of the game have done it better than Mickelson, who has won 37 PGA Tour titles, including three major championships.
The new product was developed by mobile media company Zumobi and Jastrow Productions, which last year created the DVD of the same name.
“As one of the leading golfers in the world today, Phil Mickelson is particularly known for his great skill with the short game and we are absolutely thrilled to offer golfers his unique expertise and instruction where they want it most – on the course,” said Ken Willner, CEO of Zumobi, a leading mobile media company that publishes branded applications for next-generation smartphones  “The Secrets of the Short Game app will provide Zumobi Network users with the tools they need to improve their short games in a highly engaging and informative new way.”
The complete app totals about 30 minutes and is broken down into one-minute on-the-go lessons dealing with putter grip, reading greens and playing breaks, the essential hinge-and-hold method of chipping and controlling shot trajectory. Once downloaded, the user can keep the app permanently and quickly scroll through lessons during practice or even between shots during a round.

"I think Zumobi’s production of the Secrets app is sensational,” Mickelson said. “The color and clarity are nearly identical to the DVD and book. It’s easy to navigate and perhaps best of all it’s embedded. Without question this app is a very useful, friendly tool for anyone who wants to improve his or her game.”
